Walking is a regular pastime and while out and about, I sketch. It makes one observe much harder than merely snapping with a camera, seeing things that at first were not noticeable. Taking longer, sketching and drawing gives time to react to the weather, the feel of a place. All that gives the image more information to work with later. More detail is lodged in the memory.
The interest of this series was not only trying to show something of the place and nature, but also how to transfer pencil marks into bruch marks, black and white into glorious technicolour. The process developed each image into a painting with its own spirit that somehow retained something of its little sketch.
The sketches can be found in their own section of this site to show how each painting evolved and developed.
